Eric Rasmussen was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round of the 1971 free agent draft, but opted to attend the University of New Orleans where he was named a first team All-American. The St. Louis Cardinals then selected him in the 32nd round of the June, 1973 free agent draft.

Eric pitched in the major leagues from 1975-1980, and again from 1982-1983. In late 1980 & 1981, he pitched in the Mexican League. He holds the distinction of being the only major league pitcher to ever toss a shutout in his first National League start (July 21, 1975) and his first American League start (August 6, 1983). In his five year career he finished 55-77 with 489 strikeouts and an impressive 3.85 lifetime ERA. Eric is the current Pitching Coach for the Twins Rookie Gulf Coast League club and following the 2008 season was promoted to the Twins Minor League Pitching Coordinator.
